Christmas - why I choose to celebrate
redemption - Christmas celebrates the start of the greatest rescue ever accomplished. The Almighty God who created the heavens and the earth loves us so much that He broke into history and took on the nature of the humans he created. He took upon Himself the punishment for our rebellion and rescued us from the grip of the kingdom of darkness. This wonderful truth is worth celebrating and sharing.
family - Family is at the heart of Christmas. One family traveled a long journey by donkey to meet the requirements of an oppressive regime. In doing so, they fulfilled prophecies recorded hundreds of years earlier about where the Messiah would be born. Today, our families gather for a meal and make time for one another. We send cards to friends and relatives and invite the lonely into our homes.
love in action - Since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another 1 John 4:11 NIV. Christmas is an opportunity to put love into action. We can give to those who cannot give in exchange, serve in soup kitchens and shelters for the homeless or visit the elderly.
Christmas is a time for wonder. A time for cultivating a child-like adoration of the God who came to earth. The God who became man fully aware of the price He would pay so that we might share His glorious inheritance.
